Despite differences of religious opinion regarding the validity and possibility of a single woman performing Umrah or Hajj, the Saudi Ministry categorically refuses to grant a visa to a woman without a mahram*, if she is under 45 years of age.

Women under 45 years of age must be accompanied by a mahram*. An official copy of the civil marriage certificate and/or the presentation of a family booklet will be requested by the Saudi consular authorities in France. Failure to do so will result in the visa application being rejected by the Saudi Consulate.

Any woman aged 45 or over may perform Umrah or Hajj without a mahram*, if she travels with a group or with family members, and submits a certified no objection certificate issued by her mahram*.

*A family member with whom marriage is prohibited.
