The attachment to the pilgrimage of our Pious predecessors

  • Můsâ Ibn Hârûn performed the pilgrimage many times, he resided in Baghdad one year and performed the pilgrimage the next.1
  • Hilal Ibn Khabab reported: « I went with Said Ibn Lubayr in the last days of Rajab, and he went to Kufah to perform Umrah, and then he came back, and then he went again to perform the pilgrimage in the middle of Dhu’l-Qi’dah. He traveled twice a year: once for the pilgrimage and once for the Umrah. « 2
  • Al-Hasan Ibn Ahmad reported that Ibn Abi cUmar Al cAdani performed the pilgrimage seventy-seven times.3
  • Suhnûn reported: « Ibn Wahb divided his time into three thirds: one third in guarding the frontiers, one third in teaching the people, and one third for the pilgrimage, and it is mentioned that he performed the pilgrimage thirty-six times. « 4
  • Abu Ishaq reported, « An-Nakhai performed the pilgrimage eighty times, between the pilgrimage and the Umrah. « 5
  • Sufyân Ibn Uyaynah said, « I participated in eighty stations [in Arafat] » And he would say at each station, « Ο Allah, let this not be the last . » And in the year when he died, he did not say anything about this but he said, « I was embarrassed before Allah. « 6
  • Ibn Abi ‘Ablah used to say to those who returned from jihad, « You have returned from the minor jihad, but what have you done with the major jihad, the struggle of the heart? « 7
