Documents and procedures
To travel to Tanzania, a passport valid for more than 6 months from the date of arrival in Tanzania is required by the Tanzanian authorities. The Tanzanian Embassy in Toronto no longer issues visas as of November 2019 and only an e-visa can be obtained and only through the government website. However, when the traveler does not have the opportunity to apply for a visa before departure, it can be obtained at the international airports of Dar-Es-Salam, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro, as well as the ports of Dar-Es-Salam, Zanzibar and Kigoma.
Medical
Before departure, be sure to consult your doctor or an international vaccination center in order to assess your health and receive health recommendations, including vaccinations.
Take with you any medication you may need for your personal use and the medical prescriptions for it.
Vaccination against yellow fever may be required upon entry into the country for travelers coming from countries where it is endemic.
Up-to-date diphtheria-tetanus-polio (DTP) vaccination is recommended for all and rubella-mumps-measles (MMR) vaccination is recommended for children. It is also preferable to be vaccinated against bacterial meningitis A + C + Y + W135.
Depending on local travel conditions, vaccinations against typhoid fever, viral hepatitis A and B, and rabies may be recommended.
Payment
The payment of the stay can be done in several times.
You can pay by cash, credit card, check or bank transfer.
The total amount due must be paid at least one month before departure.
If the registration takes place after less than one month before departure, checks will no longer be accepted and full payment must be made at registration.
A deposit must be left. This will vary according to the total amount you will have to pay, the number of people, whether you choose options or not, etc.
Flights
Departures can be made from anywhere in Canada. The date of departure and/or the airline will vary according to your wishes. You will take your flight independently and then you will be picked up at the arrival airport.
Climate
It is possible to travel all year round in Tanzania, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 30 degrees. However, two rainy seasons punctuate the calendar: a long one that runs from mid-March to mid-May and a shorter one that takes place from November to mid-December.
Time difference
+ 8h compared to Canada.
Languages
The two official languages are English and Swahili, but there are a multitude of African dialects in Tanzania that you can try during your stay!
Currency
The local currency is the Tanzanian shilling (TZS). C$1 is worth approximately Tsh. 2450. The US dollar is accepted everywhere in Tanzania. Plan to change your euros into dollars before you leave, as this will probably cost you the least. You can also withdraw Tanzanian shillings locally with your credit card, but they have no value outside the country, so make sure you spend them all before leaving the country! You will also be able to pay by credit card locally, but the fees applied to all transactions are 5% of the total amount.
Sockets
The plugs used in Tanzania are English and the current is 230 V, so it is necessary to bring an adapter.
