Documents and procedures
No visa is required for Canadian nationals for stays of less than 3 months. A stamp authorizing entry into the country is affixed to the passport upon arrival. A passport valid for at least the duration of the stay is required. As well as proof of residence and financial capacity (100 USD per day) to stay in the country.
Medical
Before departure, be sure to consult your doctor or an international vaccination center in order to evaluate your health and receive health recommendations, especially regarding vaccinations.
Take with you any medication you may need for your personal use and the medical prescriptions for it.
Up-to-date diphtheria-tetanus-polio (DTP), rubella, mumps, and measles vaccinations are recommended, especially for children. Since April 2018, there have been numerous cases of measles in the country. The virus is extremely contagious. It is recommended to ensure the status of its vaccinations with special attention for children, adolescents and young adults (born after 1980).
Payment
The payment of the stay can be done in several times.
You can pay by cash, credit card, check or bank transfer.
The total amount due must be paid at least one month before departure.
If the registration takes place after less than one month before departure, checks will no longer be accepted and full payment must be made at registration.
A deposit must be left. This will vary according to the total amount you will have to pay, the number of people, whether you choose options or not, etc.
Flights
Departures can be made from anywhere in Canada. The date of departure and/or the airline will vary according to your wishes. You will take your flight independently and then you will be picked up at your arrival airport.
Climate
From January to April the rainfall is more important than the rest of the year but the temperatures are higher, close to 30°c. The rest of the year the climate is dry and temperatures are around 20 degrees.
Time difference
Mauritius is 9 hours ahead.
Languages
Mauritians mainly speak French, English and Creole. Indian dialects are also widely spoken.
Currency
The currency used is the Mauritian rupee. 1 Mauritian Rupee = CAD$0.020
