Documents and procedures
Canadian nationals are exempt from visa requirements for a tourist stay in Turkey if the stay does not exceed 90 days within a period of 180 days, whether the stay is continuous or divided. However, they must have a national identity card or an individual passport that is valid for at least 150 days beyond the date of entry into Turkey. National identity cards issued to adults between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2013 are still valid five years after the expiry date indicated. The Turkish authorities have officially accepted this extension. However, in order to avoid any inconvenience during your trip, it is preferable to use a valid passport rather than a NIC with an expired date, even if it is considered by the authorities as still being valid.
Medical
Before leaving, be sure to consult your doctor or an international vaccination center to assess your health and receive health recommendations, especially regarding vaccinations.
Take along any medication you need for personal use and the medical prescriptions for it. If the medical treatment requires the use of needles, syringes or injection pens, it is strongly recommended that you be able to provide a medical certificate, if possible translated into English, stating that this equipment is intended for the injection of medication.
Vaccination against yellow fever may be required upon entry to the country for travelers coming from countries where it is endemic.
Diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis (DTP) vaccination update is recommended for all and rubella-mumps-measles (MMR) vaccination is recommended for children. Vaccination against tuberculosis is also recommended.
Depending on local travel conditions, vaccinations against typhoid fever, viral hepatitis A and B, and rabies may be recommended.
