A mahram is any member of the woman’s family whom she cannot marry. For example, apart from the woman’s husband, this includes her father, grandfather, brother, uncle (mother’s or father’s brother), nephew or son (over 18 years old). The mahram must be a Muslim, pubescent and of sound mind.

When applying for a visa at the Saudi consular authorities, it will be necessary to prove the relationship of the family. A civil marriage certificate, a birth certificate or a family record book must be presented.

The woman and her mahram must travel together on the same flight.
